NEW YEAR NEW ME?

It’s 2019 LB babes, did you make any New Year’s resolutions? If not don’t feel bad, a New Year’s resolution to me is just a set up! Here’s why!


A New Year’s resolution is a promise a person makes to oneself for the new year, like a promise to change a bad habit for example, eating junk food or to quit smoking. Seems easy enough, right? Wrong. Research shows that about half of all adults make New Year’s resolutions. However, fewer than 10% manage to keep them for more than a few months. The main reason that people don’t stick to their resolutions is that they set too many or they’re unrealistic to achieve.

Based on a few studies, FHS is the main contributor to failed New Year’s resolutions. False Hope Syndrome (FHS) ” is characterized by a person’s unrealistic expectations about the likely speed, amount, ease and consequences of changing their behavior.

I have made some NYRs in the past but I have never been able to actually achieve those goals, along with the rest of the world! (You are not alone) Some of the resolutions that I would set are things that are pretty hard to accomplish. I wanted to lose weight and with that comes a lot of hard work and dedication. When we set these goals we never think of what that actually entails so when we fail we beat ourselves up, we think we’re failures.

How have I gotten over the self loathing after failing my NYRs you ask? Stop making NYRs! Why do we wait around for a new year to start to make changes in our lives? I get the “New Year New Me” but that only last for a few months if that! Insane is defined as repeating the same thing over and over again expecting different results, NYRs are INSANE!

So with all of that being said, I am not against NYR
(New Year’s resolution) but if you are going to commit to a NYR I would advice to start small and you don’t have to wait for New Year’s to roll around to make changes in your life. Make a simple change in your life, once you have achieved that goal move on to something a littler bigger, so on and so forth. I hope this helps you in you future New Year’s resolutions.
